The Sunrise Side Master Gardener Association (SSMGA) represents Master Gardeners from Michigan's Sunrise Side which is located along Lake Huron in Northeast Michigan. Some of the cities members represent include East Tawas, Tawas City, AuGres, Hale, Harrisville, National City, Whittemore and Oscoda. General membership meetings with a featured speaker are held once a month throughout the year. Some of the volunteer projects include: the Northeast Michigan Regional Farm Market, the Iosco County Medical Care Facility, the Iosco County Fair, the Annual Home and Garden Show, the Junior Master Gardener Program, and numerous beautification projects throughout the community. Upcoming Master Gardener Program! Master Gardner Volunteer training will start Monday, March 22, 2010. Classes will continue each Monday and Thursday through April 26 from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. Applications may be received by calling the MSUE office at 989-362-3449 or by visiting the office in the County Annex Building located at 420 W. Lake Street (US-23) in Tawas City. Classes will be held in the County Annex Building. Fee: $200 covers materials and speaker travel. Fifty dollar down payment is required with application to reserve a place. Completed applications and full payment must be received by Monday, February 15, 2010. 2010 Membership Fee Due March 1, 2010 Annual dues of $20 for the Sunrise Side Master Gardener Association are now due. Each dues payment must be accompanied by a fully completed membership application. Please make checks payable to SSMGA.
Sunrise Side Master Gardener Association Mission Statement Joining together as Master Gardeners, our mission is to share our enthusiasm and knowledge of gardening by a wide variety of educational and volunteer activities in the spirit of friendship and fun. In conjunction with Michigan State University Extension, we will continue to educate ourselves and to provide community members with up-to-date consumer horticultural information using environmentally sound practices.
