Meetings:

January 8, 2008       "Make and Take Floral Arrangement" by Jim Whitson, Owner of Kitzman Flowers, Standish at

                               Iosco County Medical Facility Conference Room (ICMF).  Cost of the workshop is $8.  Bring knife

                               and scissors.  Other materials will be provided.

                               House Plant Exchange:  Bring a plant you no longer want, a cutting or a start.  Provide as much

                               information as you are able.  Credit:  1 hour.    

February 12, 2008    "Mike's Landscape Ideas to Chase Your Winter Blahs" by Mike Anschuetz (MG); ICMF

                               Have extra seed or plant catalogs?  Care to share a good website for gardening?

                               Bring your extra catalogs and share your information with everyone.  Credit:  45 minutes.

March 11, 2008        "Prepare your Garden Beds Naturally" by David Moore, Owner of Stone Cottage Garden; ICMF

                               Credit:  1 hour, 15 minutes.

April 8, 2008            "Ponds & Water Gardening in Michigan" by Mike Sword, Owner Able Ponds, Pinconning; ICMF

                               Credit: 30 minutes

May 13, 2008          "Container Gardening Workshop" by Louise Shoksnyder;  Host: Louise Shoksnyder

                               Bring a Lawn chair and Perennial plants to swap.  Plants should be labeled with as much

                               information as you can supply;  Credit:  30 minutes.

June 10, 2008           "Growing Irises", Presented by Tom Leach, Member of the Mio Irisarians; ICMF  

                               Credit:  30 minutes    

July 8, 2008             "Reminders for the Rest of the Season" by John Parker, Ranger's Nursery;

August 12, 2008       Annual Picnic, Hosted by Sue Kindt; 6 p.m.  Directions will be in the August newsletter.

Fruit Tree Workshop, Interlochen, Michigan

Date:            Saturday, June 28, 2008;  9 a.m. -- 11 a.m.

Cost:            $40.00 per person; Includes handouts, materials and a potted fruit tree to take home.

Workshop will be taught by Stephen Fouch, Director, MSU Extension-Benzie County.

MSU Garden Day, East Lansing, Michigan

Wharton Center & Plant & Soil Sciences Building, August 8, 2008

This special event is planned in appreciation of the donors to, and friends of, the MSU Horticulture Gardens. We invite everyone who appreciates the beauty and wonder of gardens to join us.

Get inspired with new ideas and practical tips for your garden. Garden Day is from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m at the Wharton Center. At 10:00 am the group attends their first choice workshop held at the Plant & Soil Sciences building followed by Lunch, Market Place (vendors, plant sale, book signing) and their second choice workshop. At 2:30 the group returns to Wharton Center to hear the final keynote speaker. Cost is $75 before July 25 and $85 after that date. Registration includes two workshops, keynote speakers, parking and lunch.

There will be vendors selling garden necessities at the Garden Marketplaces. Items such as roses, herbs, native plants, grasses and birdbaths will be available for purchase.
